EGGER Group stands by the earthquake victims
The Group Management proved once again that, as a globally active company, EGGER embraces every condition affecting its employees in every country. Following the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the management has announced that it is working to help those affected by the earthquake with 1 million Euro funding. This funding will be utilised mainly for shelter projects.
According to official data, thousands of buildings have collapsed or become uninhabitable as a result of serious damage after the earthquake hit Kahramanmaras. First and foremost, those affected need housing for the coming months and years to fulfil one of the most basic human needs, which is the need for shelter. The EGGER Group would like to inform the public that we have started to work to meet this basic need. Our products play an active role in the human need for shelter.
Operating in Turkey with its ROMA brand, the EGGER Group has contributed to the aid campaign started by its dedicated employees in Turkey and expanded its support by developing projects to meet the priority needs for earthquake victims. The Group Management announced that it has donated 1 million Euro to cover all costs of the houses designed with its own products, from walls to floors, from kitchen cabinets to wardrobes, responding to the housing needs of the people.
“The devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria has deeply affected us all. The scale of this destruction and suffering of people of both nations has shaken all of humanity. We have been cooperating in solidarity with everyone affected by the earthquake in the relevant regions since day one.
We especially thank EGGER employees who are among AFAD Volunteers for their wisdom and courage during these hard times. Our volunteer team played an active role in search and rescue operations in the earthquake zones since day one. One of the team members took part in the rescue of a 12-year-old boy from under the rubble. Our other employees in Gebze have also been extremely generous. We were very touched that they collected aid materials and decided to donate a part of their earnings. Our employees at all levels demonstrated real teamwork by taking part in various projects and campaigns. Our Group's plants in other countries also made donations to charitable organisations. At times like these, we feel that we are a single team with more than 11,000 employees, and we see that our corporate culture that values people is further strengthened with our employees. We are extremely honoured by the courage our employees have and the solidarity of the big EGGER Family. They show that together we can achieve great things.
As EGGER Group, we wanted to contribute to the awareness of our employees and alleviate the pain of the people affected by the earthquake in the region. And thus came the question: ‘How can we provide the most efficient assistance?’ Over the last few weeks, we have been working with the authorities and aid organisations to develop projects that optimally fulfil needs. Foreseeing that the reconstruction of permanent housing structures may take a long time, we wanted to focus on shelter to obtain faster solutions and our teams developed valuable projects in this context. We want to ease the distress of earthquake victims with our village project consisting of houses made with timber frame construction. They have a long service life and are designed with components such as OSB, parquet and MDF. We are working with all our strength to provide shelter for hundreds of people with this EGGER village. In addition to all these, we will provide the materials and cover the manufacturing costs of 1000 wardrobes, 1000 bedsteads, 1000 kitchens for the use of earthquake victims.
We have been in constant dialogue with the relevant authorities since day one. We follow the latest news and needs closely and continue to work to meet the requirements as soon as possible,” says the 3rd generation member of the Egger family Michael Egger Jr., Chief Sales Officer (CSO) EGGER Group.
